The Great Controversy Over the Human Will is part four in a church history series presented by Dr. David Lawrence. This series focuses on the debate between Erasmus and Luther over whether or not man, through his own reason, has the ability to come to God. This controversy represented a gigantic clash of humanistic philosophy versus Biblical scholarship. This study will examine the influences that came to bear on both men and will explore the Renaissance concept of humanism with its exalted view of man when it intersected with Reformation thought on God's holiness and man's fallenness.
